IF YOU COULD HIE TO KOLOB

youngbinary

If you could hie to Kolob
In the twinkling of an eye,
And then continue onward
With that same speed to fly,
Do you think that you could ever,
Through all eternity,
Find out the generation
Where Gods began to be?
Or see the grand beginning,

Where space did not extend?
Or view the last creation,
Where Gods and matter end?
Methinks the Spirit whispers,
“No man has found ‘pure space,’
Nor seen the outside curtains,
Where nothing has a place.”
The works of God continue,

And worlds and lives abound;
Improvement and progression
Have one eternal round.
There is no end to matter;
There is no end to space;
There is no end to spirit;
There is no end to race.
There is no end to virtue;

There is no end to might;
There is no end to wisdom;
There is no end to light.
There is no end to union;
There is no end to youth;
There is no end to priesthood;
There is no end to truth.
There is no end to glory;

There is no end to love;
There is no end to being;
There is no death above.
There is no end to glory;
There is no end to love;
There is no end to being;
There is no death above.

From Abraham chapter 3 vs 2-9, 13, 16

“And I saw the stars, that they were very great, and that one of them was nearest unto the throne of God; and there were many great ones which were near unto it;

And the Lord said unto me: These are the governing ones; and the name of the great one is Kolob, because it is near unto me, for I am the Lord thy God: I have set this one to govern all those which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.

And the Lord said unto me, by the Urim and Thummim, that Kolob was after the manner of the Lord, according to its times and seasons in the revolutions thereof; that one revolution was a day unto the Lord, after his manner of reckoning, it being one thousand years according to the time appointed unto that whereon thou standest. This is the reckoning of the Lord’s time, according to the reckoning of Kolob.

And the Lord said unto me: The planet which is the lesser light, lesser than that which is to rule the day, even the night, is above or greater than that upon which thou standest in point of reckoning, for it moveth in order more slow; this is in order because it standeth above the earth upon which thou standest, therefore the reckoning of its time is not so many as to its number of days, and of months, and of years.

And the Lord said unto me: Now, Abraham, these two facts exist, behold thine eyes see it; it is given unto thee to know the times of reckoning, and the set time, yea, the set time of the earth upon which thou standest, and the set time of the greater light which is set to rule the day, and the set time of the lesser light which is set to rule the night.

Now the set time of the lesser light is a longer time as to its reckoning than the reckoning of the time of the earth upon which thou standest.

And where these two facts exist, there shall be another fact above them, that is, there shall be another planet whose reckoning of time shall be longer still;

And thus there shall be the reckoning of the time of one planet above another, until thou come nigh unto Kolob, which Kolob is after the reckoning of the Lord’s time; which Kolob is set nigh unto the throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same order as that upon which thou standest.

And he said unto me: This is Shinehah, which is the sun. And he said unto me: Kokob, which is star. And he said unto me: Olea, which is the moon. And he said unto me: Kokaubeam, which signifies stars, or all the great lights, which were in the firmament of heaven.

If two things exist, and there be one above the other, there shall be greater things above them; therefore Kolob is the greatest of all the Kokaubeam that thou hast seen, because it is nearest unto me.”

If you could Hie to Kolob is one of my favorite hymns of all time. These scriptures from Abraham help us to learn and understand a bit more about where God lives. What his world may be like.

We learn that on his world he has both a greater and lesser light. We learn that Kolob is the star which Is the greater of the two. We learn that Kolob is the one star that governs all others. Incluing the world on which we now reside. We learn some of the language of God.

One of my favorite things about this passage of scripute is learning of the reckoning of God’s time as it compares to us. We learn that his world rotates very slowy compared to ours. 1,000 years on earth is the equilivant of 1 day to God. This is something that has always intrigued me. Most christian theology suggest that the earth has a 7,000 year life span for humanity. Most people believe that is assumed to mean 7,000 years on earth. But what if that was really meant to be 7,000 years according to God’s time. Given that formula we would can come to the conclusion that it is 365,000 earth years = 1 year according to God’s time. If we take that number and multiply it by 7,000 years of human life time then that would work out to 2,555,000,000 earth years. Thats is quite a long existance for the human race. This number i’m sure would also be more in line with scientific knowledge we have as well. In the end we don’t really know if God meant 7,000 earth years or 7,000 years according to his time, or something in between.

Do you ever wonder when God’s began to be. I know I do. They mysteries of the universe are something that have alwasy intrigued me. Where is God’s world in relation to ours. Is it within our own galaxy or another Galaxy somewhere else in the universe? If we could visit the world of God what would it look like? How long would it take to get there? All these questions will be answered in time.

Our spirits are immortal and thus we will have the oppurtunity to hie to Kolob at some future time in our existance. When we come to that time we will have all these questions answered. As children of God we all have the potential to become as God is and to one day be God’s and Goddesses of our own worlds. We at the time of course will still worhsip our father in heaven as our God and always will.

The doctrine of Kolob within the church is one that is unique to our faith. It is a doctrine that stands out as one of the great mysteries of the universe. Knowing the name of God’s world for me helps to solidify my faith in God. He loves us enough to give us more than just his commandment to have faith in him but took the time to tell us a bit about him and how time is reckonned to him so that we may have a great understanding of our place in the heavens and how things work for him.

God loves us and wants us to know and understand him. We are still infants in our ability to fully understand and grasp all that he has to share with us. We must be patient and have understanding. Learn precept upon precept. Step by step. Keeping our faith in God for the time when we will know and understand all things.
